Context of the mission :
Pakistan, with a population of 150 millions, is at a 138th post in terms of human development. For women, the literacy level still remains much lower than that of men (27,9% vs. 57,5%) and violence is a theme with which is confronted many of them on a day-to-day basis.
Even though the status of women in Pakistan differs throughout the country, with geographical, economical and tribal and feudal differences, domestic violence is a widespread phenomenon in the entire country (physical, sexual or psychological violence, rapes, ..).
Dar-ul-Amans (DUA) or women shelter homes:
For women who dare to flee the violence, women shelter homes exist, 14 run by the government and 4 run by civil society groups. Each shelter home lodges between 20 and 50 women plus their smallest children.
In September 2005, MDM has signed a 3-year partnership agreement with the Departement Social Welfare Woman Development of Punjab in order to be able to work in the 8 governmental women shelter homes of Punjab province.
Burn victims:
Hundreds of women are burnt each year as a result of domestic violence, either by fire or by acid. One third of them die. For the survivors without financial resources,there is no plastic surgery repairing their wounds.
Tasks and responsibilities of the Psychologist:
S/He is the technical referent to improve management, monitoring and evaluation tools for the psychological activities in the DUA, and to ensure capacity building and direct support to national staff.
- Management and support to the 3 psychologists working in the DUA (coordination, briefing and debriefing, technical support)
- Training (assessment of needs, elaboration of a training schedule with local partners)
- Networking (identification of and work with stakeholders, lobbying with Social Welfare officials to promote psychological support in the DUA)
- Testimony (collection and analysis of data through interviews)
- Opération Sourire programme (setting up of psychological support for women who benefit plastic surgery in collaboration with Pakistani organisations)
- Internal Coordination (work with the managing team and superintendents of each DUA, meetings with management committees)
- Programme Monitoring and Evaluation (definition of indicators and evaluation of the impact of the programme)
- End-of-mission Reporting

Expériences : Experience in psycho trauma and PTSD;
Formation : Psychologist
Langues : Fluent oral and written English
Qualité : Female; Ability to work in a multicultural setting and as part of a team; Patience and sense of diplomacy
Complément : Previous experience in a Muslim country is an added advantage; Good computer skills, MS Excel in particular
