I. CONTEXTE / PROGAMME
The Medical Aid Committee (CAM) is a French non-profit, apolitical non-governmental organization with humanitarian goals. Each member is required to respect the principles of independence, neutrality, non-discrimination, professionalism and transparency. The CAM conducts medical projects in order to relieve suffering of the populations all around the world. The aim of the programs of the association is to increase the self-sufficiency of the beneficiaries.
After the natural crisis caused by the Tsunami, Comité d’Aide Médicale started an assessment in Sri Lanka in the aim to establish a programme to support health structures and assist vulnerable populations Areas of intervention include: primary health care, water and sanitation, non food items distribution.
II. DEFINITION OF THE FUNCTION:
General description of the post:
• Implement the psycho-social part of the intervention program of the Comité d’Aide
Médicale in Tirrukovil and Kalmunai, Sri Lanka.
• Open and organise a welfare center .
• Plan and coordinate all activities related to the psycho-social program.
• Recruit and manage a specialized national staff for the program.
• Evaluate the depth of the psychosocial trauma of the populations.
• Evaluate the knowledge of the CAM medical teams concerning psycho traumatic disease.
• Train the CAM medical teams to identify and orientate the beneficiaries suffering from psycho traumatism.
• Train the trainers in order to therefore organize trainings for psychosocial councelor.
• Organize a referral system for peoples suffering from psycho traumatic disease and who need specialized treatments.
• Develop partnerships with international and local NGO dealing involved in psychosocial programmes.
• Provide weekly situation reports on emerging psychological indicators.
• Work in cooperation with the medical coordinator to have a medical program complementary to the psychosocial program.
• Conduct Needs Assessments.
• Contribute to the program direction and initiate project proposal submissions.
III. REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
• Previous experience in management of psychosocial programmes.
• Excellent written and spoken English (essential).
• Ability to live and work in conditions of limited comfort.
• Ability to accept the possibility of insecurity in the project area and to accept the security rules.
• Experience supervising staff in an international setting.
• Excellent communication skills and flexibility. Able to work under pressure in an unstable security environment.
• Previous overseas experience in humanitarian assistance programmes and computer skills (Word, Excel) are desirable.
